MANCHESTER, CT-Mary (Lassey) Grimley, 82 of 403 West Center Street formerly of Auburn died Friday, October 25th in Manchester Manor after an illness. Her husband Stephen E. Grimley died in 1993. She leaves a son, Stephen E. Grimley, Jr. of Manhattan, NY; a daughter, Kathleen A. wife of Frederick Thomas of Vernon, CT; a dear friend, Frederick A. Towle of Manchester, CT; a granddaughter, Vicki wife of Andrew Burleigh and a great granddaughter, Alexis Burleigh all of Vernon, CT; nieces and nephews. 2 brothers, Elliot C. Lassey, John Lassey and a sister Dorothy Lassey predeceased her.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of Walter W. and Edith (Cox) Lassey and had lived in Auburn for 40 years before moving to Connecticut. She attended South High School and graduated from Coventry High School and Becker Junior College. Mrs. Grimley had worked as a secretary for 13 years for Worcester Wire, a division of National Standard Company, retiring in 1983. She previously worked for the Probation Office in the Worcester District Court for 7 years and Paul Revere Insurance Company for 5 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Manchester, CT. She was active in many committees in the Arbors Retirement Community in which she lived.
The funeral will be Wednesday, October 30th at 11:00 AM in St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 695 Southbridge Street, Worcester. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 29th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at a time to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Central Hospice, 6 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066.
