Erasmo “Raymond” Mitrano, of Medford, died Tuesday, at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston. He was 80.
Mr. Mitrano was born and raised in Gaeta, Italy, the son of the late Benedetto and the late Anunziata (Colaruotolo) Mitrano. Raymond came to the United States when he was 25 and settled in Somerville. He then married Frances (Carneglia) who was his neighbor back in Gaeta. The couple began their family and soon moved to Medford where they have lived for 45 years. Family meant everything to Raymond. He worked very hard to provide for his wife and children, often holding three jobs at a time. Later in life he focused on his grandchildren. All of his activities were directed to his family and making his home a better place. Famous for his ever-expanding gardens, Raymond also loved the ocean and gathering shellfish for his family and friends. He was a jack of all trades not only at home but also at Tufts New England Medical Center, where he worked many years before his retirement.
He was the beloved husband for 55 years of Frances (Carneglia) Mitrano. He was a devoted father of Nancy Palumbo and her husband Bobby of Milford, Rosa Mitrano of Medford, Angela Strickland and her husband Wayne of Templeton, Luisa Spirito and her husband Billy of Medford, Terri Mitrano of Chicago, Benedict Mitrano and his partner Richard of Andover. He was a cherished grandfather to Jason, Jacob, Wayne, Jr. and his wife Robin, Danielle and her husband Charlie, Nicholas, Julie and Francesca. He was a loving great-grandfather to C.J., Kata-Ray and Aubrey. He was a dear brother to Maria of Gaeta, Italy, the late Antonio, Giovanni, Pasquale, Stefano, Luigi and Mario.
