Francis X. Layes, age 63 of Chelmsford MA, died Friday in his home following a brief illness. Mr. Layes was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada, the son of the late Francis and the late Mary (MacIsaac) Layes. Frank was a Chelmsford resident for twenty years formerly of Woburn. He worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 40 of Cambridge for thirty-two years retiring this past December. He was a past member of the Woburn Moose and Billerica Elks. Mr. Layes is survived by four beloved children, Robina DeCoste of Nova Scotia, Francis Layes, Linda Layes and Kendra Vasapolli all of Woburn. He is also the loving grandfather of Joshua DeMonico and Michele Vasapolli both of Woburn. Special friend of Judith Colleran of Chelmsford and the brother of Geraldine O’Neil of Natick and Lorraine Driver of Waltham. Also survived by a nephew and many nieces.
His funeral will be from the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Tuesday at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church 138 Cambridge Rd. Woburn, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 2-4 & 7-9. Services will conclude with burial at Mt. Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
