
Heinen- Fr. Gerald died in the rectory of St. Anastasia Church, Teaneck on February 19, 2007. He was born in Chicago on April 19, 1925. He joined the Carmelites as a high school student in 1939 and professed his first vows on August 15, 1944. He graduated from Mt. Carmel College in 1947 with a degree in philosophy. He professed solemn vows as a Carmelite on September 28, 1947. He was ordained a priest at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on June 6, 1950. In his career as a Carmelite priest he taught in the high school and college seminaries in Niagara Falls and at Joliet Catholic High School in Joliet, Illinois. He was also the director of the Society of the Little Flower in 1966. In 1972 he came to New Jersey to become a pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Norwood. After fulfilling his term as pastor of Norwood, he went to St. Joseph, Bogota as associate pastor for 13 years. He concluded his pastoral ministry with 8 years as associate pastor at St. Anastasia, Teaneck. He was a very pastoral priest very famous for visiting the sick at area hospitals. He had a special affection for the children and the staff of the cancer center at Hackensack Hospital. In his later years he hosted seniors at monthly luncheons in Bogota and Teaneck. Fr. Gerry is survived by his brother, Jack Heinen and his sister in law Leona and their three children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his Carmelite community of St, Anastasia and by the many people whom he ministered throughout his entire life. He was a great priest. Viewing will take place at St. Anastasia Church, 1095 Teaneck Road from 3-9 PM on Friday February 23. A wake service will be celebrated at 7:30PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00AM at St. Anastasia on Saturday February 24 with Fr. Jim Boyce, Eastern Commissary Provincial of the Carmelites presiding. Interment will follow at the Carmelite section of Mt. Carmel Cemetery Tenafly. Arrangements entrusted to Volk Leber Funeral Home, Teaneck.
