ROBERT J. RAMSEY, JR., age 69, a Hingham resident for the past 38 years, died on Tuesday, Feb. 20th at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a long illness. Mr. Ramsey was born in Dorchester and was educated at St. Peter's Grammar School in Dorchester, Christopher Columbus High School in the North End and Boston State College. He then went on to achieve his Masters Degree in social work at Boston University. For many years Mr. Ramsey was the Chief Probation Officer of the Plymouth District Court, retiring in 2001. He was a communicant of St. Paul's Church in Hingham and a former member of the United States Navy Reserve. He was especially interested in youth sports in Hingham and volunteered with the John Barker Basketball League, Pop Warner Football and Hingham Youth Baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen (Coady) Ramsey of Hingham and was the father of Robert J. Ramsey and his wife Kimberly of Kingston, Katie R. Hughes and her husband Frederick also of Kingston and William C. Ramsey and his fiance Adrienne Fowkes of Hingham. He was the brother of Janice Ramsey of Quincy and the late James Ramsey. Grandfather of Aidan Ramsey and Ella Hughes both of Kingston.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 24th at 10 AM at St. Paul's Church, 147 North St., Hingham Square.
Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02110.
The interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Hingham.
