Dr. Lawrence J. Luby, 88, of Dartmouth died Friday October 25, 2002 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary W. (Welsh) Luby,and son of the late Michael J. and Catherine (McCarthy) Luby.
Born and raised in New Bedford, he lived in Dartmouth for most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Dr. Luby was a podiatrist who maintained a private practice in New Bedford for many years until his retirement.
An avid golfer who had golfed until last year, he had been a member of the Country Club of New Bedford and the Whaling City Golf Club. He had served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was educated at Holy Family High School, Temple University, and Beacon School of Podiatry.
Survivors include a son, Michael J. Luby of Dartmouth; a daughter, Sheila McBroom of Corte Madera, CA; a brother-in-law, Thomas Joseph of New Bedford; 4 sisters-in-law, Marion Welsh of Dartmouth, Margaret Welsh and Juliette Luby Higham, both of New Bedford, and Kathleen Wolfe of Yarmouth; and many nieces and nephews and their families.He was the brother of the late Catherine Manning, Marguerite Joseph, John Luby, and Edmund Luby.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday October 28, 2002 at 11 AM in St. Lawrence Church, New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday morning prior to the Funeral Mass.
