Shirley M. (Kohl) Cormier 82, died Tuesday February 20th in the South Shore Hospital after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Henry W. Cormier.
Born in New Jersey she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Manning) Kohl.
Shirley lived in Nantasket and Brockton, graduating from Brockton High School. She later moved to Whitman where she resided for 60 years.
She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s radiator repair business and was active in the March of Dimes. She also learned to read Braille in order to help teach the blind.
In her retirement she resided in Whitman at both Pine Circle and Harvard Court. While at Harvard Court she started the “Harvard Fayre” a consignment & gift shop. She also helped run Bingo for the Harvard Court residents.
She is survived by her children Henry W. Cormier II of Quincy, Joyce Cormier-Ball of East Bridgewater, and Jeanne Lindsey of Florida, her brother John Kohl of Brockton and her sister Carol Kirkpatrick of Michigan, 6 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many beloved friends.
A Memorial service will be held Friday February 23rd at 3 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Route 58 @ the Rotary Circle) Whitman. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service 2-3 PM. Burial will be at a later date.
