Anita L. (Lindsey) Mills, 80, Friday, February 16th died in the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, after a period of failing health. She was the wife of 58 years to Junius B. Mills, Jr.
She was born in Hingham and also lived in New Orleans for 9 years. She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Mabel (Tuttle) Lindsey.
Anita and Junius met in New Orleans, Louisiana while he was in the United States Navy during WWII.
Anita and Junius resided in Whitman for the last 49 years.
Anita was brought up and was educated in the Hingham schools. She attended nursing school in Boston at Northeastern University and received her training at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA. As a registered nurse, she was employed at South Shore Hospital, Weymouth, South Shore Medical Center in Norwell and the Braeburn Nursing Home in Whitman. After her nursing career, Anita was employed at Raytheon in Quincy as a Environmental Analyst where she retired after 10 years.
She was lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW #697 and a member of South Shore Citizens Club in Hingham.
She enjoyed her children and grandchildren as well as Japanese embroidery and traveling.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her son, “J.B.” Mills III, of Ohio, four daughters; Lynne Mills of Whitman, Cheryl Robertson of California, Pamela Mills of Weymouth and Rene Mills-Sellam of New York, 3 sisters; Marion Teague, Pauline Gentry and Estelle Green all of Hingham, also 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral services will be held Thursday February 22nd at 10:00AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Inc Plymouth Street (RT58 at the Rotary Circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Mass.V.A. National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours Wednesday February 21st 3-7 PM. Donations may be made to the American Cancer society 1115 West Chestnut Street Suite 301 Brockton, MA 02301.
