NEW BEDFORD, MA -- William Schick, age 56, of New Bedford, MA died February 15, 2007, after a long battle with liver cancer at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Barbara (Sylvia) Schick, who passed away in December 2006. He was the son of the late Leo J. Schick and Isabel (DeMello) Schick, and brother of Leo J. Schick, Jr. of New Bedford, MA., and the late Barbara (Schick) Mulgrew of Las Cruces, NM
Mr. Schick lived and worked all of his life in New Bedford and in his early years became an accomplished musician who played guitar, drums, and piano in several rock bands in the area. Several times his bands played and won awards in the "Battle Of The Bands" music competitions during-the 1960's and 1970's. He and his band toured the southeastern Massachusetts area entertaining patrons at local establishments and clubs.
He is survived by his brother, Leo Schick; his niece, Kelly (Mulgrew) Covert and her husband, Michael of Las Cruces, NM; his nephew, Michael Mulgrew and his wife, Twilia of Austin, TX; his stepsons, Melvin Vincent of Acushnet, MA, and Scott Briggs of New Bedford, MA, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral from the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., NB on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at 10 A.M. followed by service with Holy Eucharist at Grace Episcopal Church, County and School Sts., NB at 11 A.M. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation on Monday at the funeral home from 5-8 P.M.
