WORCESTER-Vasil Symock, 73, of Worcester, died Wednesday, February 14th in UMass-Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his sister, Mary E. Tanacea with whom he lived; a brother, George M. and his wife Catherine Symock of Shrewsbury; 2 nieces, Ann Marie wife of Robert Clem of Charlton and Elaine Killick of Worcester; 3 nephews, Lt. Col. Michael T. Symock, USAF and his wife Kimberly of Boston, David J. and his wife, Angela Symock of Douglas and Joseph A. Symock of Seattle; grand nieces and grand nephews whom he loved deeply, Matthew and Michael Clem, Elodie Killick and Kosmo and Victoria Symock. His brother Nicholas Symock died in 2005.
He was born in Worcester the son of Kosmo and Victoria “Ethel” (Tanca) Symock. Mr. Symock was an Army veteran of the Korean Era serving in Germany. He retired in 2005 from the United States Post Office in Webster; previously he had managed the former J. J. Newbury and Richards Department Stores for 30 years, and had at one time worked for the City of Worcester, Department of Public Works. Mr. Symock was a founding member of St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church.
The funeral is Monday, February 19th with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church, 34 Gold Street, Shrewsbury (stnicholaschurch.org). Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, February 18th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue and from 9:00 AM until the time of the service in the church. A Trisagion Service will be conducted Sunday at 6:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church Building Fund.
