Obituary

TEWKSBURY: Neil Niven, Jr. age 71, a resident of Tewksbury for 44 years, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the Life Care Center in Billerica.
He was the husband of Maureen P. (Sullivan) Niven, with whom he celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on November 13th.
Born in Cambridge on December 10, 1935, he was the son of the late Neil Niven, Sr. and Anne (Costello) Niven.
Mr. Niven was raised in Cambridge, attended Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High & Latin School in 1953.
In 1963, he moved to Tewksbury, where he was a communicant of St. William’s Church.
In 1967, Mr. Niven founded Neil Niven & Son Painting and Wallpapering Company of Tewksbury, where he worked for 40 years until his retirement in 2004.
Mr. Niven served as a member of the Tewksbury Board of Selectmen from 1973 until 1976 and previously served the Town of Tewksbury as a road commissioner.
He was a life member of the Fr. Francis Coppens Council # 4336, Knights of Columbus of Tewksbury.
He enjoyed many activities including traveling to New Orleans, Florida, Hawaii, Cuba and vacationing at his summer home in Falmouth.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons; Stephen M. Niven of Beverly, Paul G. Niven and his wife Carolyn of Townsend, Timothy N. Niven and his wife Jeanne of Tyngsboro and Peter D. Niven with whom he worked for over 21 years and Joanne Snow of Westford; five grandchildren; Matthew and Jason Niven of Lowell, Shane and Ryan Niven of Tyngsboro and Max Niven of Townsend; two sisters; Catherine Witkos of Cambridge and Margaret Woolfrey of Woburn; one sister-in-law; Cyndie Niven of Somerville; many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Niven was the brother of the late John Niven.
Calling hours Thursday, February 15th, from 5-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Friday, February 16th, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass Friday, at 10 a.m., at St. William’s Church 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Youville Hospital, 1575 Cambridge St., Cambridge, MA 02138 or to Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley, c/o Activities Fund, 80 Boston Rd., Billerica, MA 01862 are requested.
