Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday at 9:30 am. Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein/St. Edward Parish at 10:30 am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery. Mary E. (Sciarappa) Murphy died Saturday evening at West Acres Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John J. Murphy and Vincent Sciarappa. She was born in Middleboro and moved to Brockton at the age of ten a daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Pearson) Canavan. She had been a resident of Brockton since 1927. Following her graduation from Brockton High School in 1935 she was employed in the bakery department of the former Comet Market on Legion Parkway. She left to marry and raise her family. After her family was grown she was employed by Storey’s Department Store at Westgate Mall until 1980.
For 20 years she had worked at the City of Brockton Voting Polls and was a former member of St. Edward Church
She is survived by three sons and a daughter: Rev. John P. Murphy of Framingham; James Sciarappa; Leo V. Sciarappa of West Haven, CT and Suellen Cirelli of Auburndale, FL.
She was the sister of John Joseph Canavan of Auburn, CA, Margaret Clifford of E. Bridgewater and the late Charles Canavan and George Canavan. She also leaves six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
