Theresa (Theriault) Driscoll of Swampscott, wife of the late James J. Driscoll, passed on peacefully Friday morning, February 9, 2007, at Salem Hospital surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Driscoll was born on November 26, 1912 and raised in St. Francis, Maine the daughter of the late Henry and Agnes (Daigle) Theriault. She graduated from Ft. Kent, Maine High School, class of 1930. After high school she learned and became an accomplished violinist. In 1962 she moved to Salem where she made her home before moving to Swampscott in 1972.
Mrs. Driscoll began her working career at J.C. Penny in Ft. Kent, Maine. She was then employed at the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company in Portland Maine. In 1973, she retired from their Salem office as an office manager, a position she held for many years within the company.
Her life revolved around her family, her 2 grandchildren and her great grandson. She was a former parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott and a member of the Ladies Sodality and for a few years attended the Holy Family Church in Lynn. She enjoyed traveling to the Foxwood Casino with her son, where she would play the slot machines. Mrs. Driscoll was well read, and enjoyed reciting poetry to her parents and siblings for years and she has also been a subscriber to the National Geographic for years. She was a member of the Swampscott Disco Dynamo in 1980, a fund raising group of 12 women, all 65 years or older who earned $800 for the elderly bus fund in the 15 months of their existence. Other hobbies were knitting, sewing and she loved to play cards and beano. Her sisters described her “as the being the family clown whom everyone loved.”
She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Janard and Linda Driscoll of Biddeford ME; 3 sisters and their husbands, Priscilla Fisher of Brevard NC, Rinette and Lewis Michaud of Sun City AZ, Doretta and Sylvio Beaulieu of Mooresville NC; her grandchildren, Janlyn Driscoll and her husband Jeff Albert and David Driscoll all of Salem; her great grandson, Max J. Albert and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Her siblings Jeanne Cormier, Grace Cormier, Olivant and Doran Theriault pre deceased her.
A Prayer service will be held Wednesday February 14, 2007 at 7 p.m. in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Relatives and friends may pay their respect at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held Thursday February 15, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, Maine.
