JOSEPH CRAY DAIGLE, a Hingham resident for the past 45 years, formerly of Quincy, died on Saturday, Feb. 10th at the Norwell Knoll Nursing Home in Norwell. He was 79. Mr. Daigle was born in Irvington, NJ on August 20, 1927, son of the late Raymond and Mary (Cray) Daigle. He was a devoted family man, long-time sailing enthusiast, an accomplished bagpiper with the Colonial Pipers, and a Nantucket basket weaver. Following graduation from Quincy High School, he served in the U.S.Army as a First Lieutenant from 1945 to 1947 in Panama and from 1952 to 1954 in France, achieving the rank of captain. Mr. Daigle was proud of the 50 years he devoted to various aspects of the graphic arts industry. From 1980 until his retirement in 1996 he owned and managed the Zimmer Dean Forrest Supply Company, formerly of Boston, successfully selling the company in 1991. He was a long-time member of the Hingham Historical Society and the Hingham Yacht Club.
He leaves his wife, Iris M. (Forsythe) Daigle of Hingham; his son, Andrew Cray Daigle and his wife Heather; his granddaughters, Brooke Daigle and Sydney Daigle, and grandson Parker Daigle all of Portsmouth, RI. He was the brother of Barbara Villa of West Palm Beach, FL, Raymond Daigle, Jr. of Orleans, MA and the late Patty Plant. Also survived by his sister in law, Patricia M. Twible of Longmeadow, MA and brother in law, George Forsythe and his wife D'Anne Hurd of Southborough, MA.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 14th at 11 AM at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St., Hingham.
Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Tuesday from 5-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Colonial Pipers Bagpipe Band, 39 Rider Rd. North Attleboro, MA 02760.
Interment in Hingham Centre Cemetery.
