Obituary

Rose (Russo) DeAngelis, a long-time Medford resident, died Friday at the Whidden Memorial Hospital, Everett. She was 94.


Born in Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Jennie (Viola) Russo. She came to the United States when she was two years old. Her family first lived in Boston’s North End where she was raised. Rose settled in Medford and raised her family. She worked many years for Charles Spumoni, Medford, as a a maker of chocolate coverd ice cream delicacies. She also worked in the cafeteria of Bank of Boston. Rosa was an active member of the Santa Maria Lodge, OSIA, in Medford for many years. Rosa was fluent, not only in her native Sicilian dialect but also in “proper” Italian. Rosa was generous and kind toward those she met. While hospilized after surgery several years ago, Rosa was asked by the physicians to translate for other patients in the hospital who could not speek english.


She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph DeAngelis. She was a devoted mother to Rosemarie Long, Carol Hamman and Ralph DeAngelis, Jr. all of Florida, Jeannette Valente of Medford, and Armando “Butch” DeAngelis of Stoneham. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Camille Bartoli.


Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St.,Medford, Tuesday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
