Obituary

LOWELL—Thomas A. Burns, 61 years old, died Thursday morning, February 8th, at Saints Medical Center, after a brief illness.

He was born in Lowell, on February 21, 1945, a son of the late James D. and Helen (Nestor) Burns, and was a graduate of the Lowell Public School System and Lowell High School, where he was a star baseball player. He was an avid stock car racer and also fought in the Golden Gloves.

Mr. Burns worked as a maintenance man at the Lowell Vocational School, in Tyngsboro, for over 27 years, when illness forced his retirement.

Surviving him are his children: Thomas and Tracy; a granddaughter: Megan Olivia; a brother and sister-in-law: Robert and Barbara Burns, of Salem, NH; a niece: Sue Ann and her husband Kevin Devine, of Salem, NH; and a dear friend: Susan Desmarais, of Lowell.

He was the uncle of the late Mary Ellen Burns.

Friends may call from 2 to 7 PM on Sunday, February 11th at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38), Lowell. His Funeral Mass to be offered on Monday, February 12th, at 11:30 AM at ST. MARGARET’S CHURCH, Lowell. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Burns name may be made to the Mary Ellen Burns Memorial Scholarship Fund; c/o Dollars for Scholars; Salem High School; 44 Geremonty Drive; Salem, NH 03079; OR 17 Kim Road; Salem, NH 03079.
