Loving grandfather of Jessica Cronin, Corrine Giordani, Julieanne and Joseph Edward Danner and Michael Edward Sullivan, great grandfather of Clinton, Jack and Logan Fleming. Brother of John J. Cronin, Capt. Robert Cronin (BPD), Elaine Keenan and the late William Cronin and Dorothy Callahan. Brother-in-law of Carol Sullivan. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123) Brockton Tuesday at 8 am. Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein / St. Edward Parish at 9 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Obituary
Edward F. Cronin 69 years of Brockton died Friday morning at the Brockton Hospital. He was the husband for 49 years of Catherine “Jackie” (Marrone) Cronin. Born and raised in Everett, a son of the late William H. and Marion (Silva) Cronin he had been a resident of Brockton since 1962. He was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School and received an associate’s degree in Law Enforcement from Massasoit Community College.
On 1991 he retired from the Brockton Police Department with the rank of Captain after 26 years of service. He had formerly served as Brockton Police Chief and had been the head of the Traffic Commission. In his retirement he delivered prescriptions to the elderly and homebound.
In the 1950’s he served in the US Navy.
Mr. Cronin will be remembered for his gregarious nature and generosity. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends and giving of himself to the City of Brockton.
For many years he was a coach for the Downey Little League and enjoyed playing softball on the Brockton Police team. He also enjoyed photography, developing photos and sharing them with others.
Mr. Cronin had been a member of the Wareham Elks, Club National and VFW Post 1046 in Brockton.
He had been a long time communicant of St. Nicholas Church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by five children Catherine Cronin of Sharon, Diane Cronin of Brockton, Patricia Giordani and her husband Edward of Bridgewater, Janet Cronin Danner of Plymouth and Cheryl Cronin Sullivan and her husband Robert of Taunton. He leaves 5 grand children Jessica Cronin, Corrine Giordani, Julieanne and Joseph Edward Danner and Michael Edward Sullivan, three great grandchildren Clinton, Jack and Logan Fleming. Brother of John J. Cronin, Capt. Robert Cronin (BPD) Elaine Keenan and the late William Cronin and Dorothy Callahan.He also leaves several nieces and nephews
