Edwina L. (Gies) Fraser - Of Lexington, formerly of Wellesley Hills, February 7, 2007. Beloved wife of the late Alfred A. Fraser.
Born Edwina L. Gies in Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Fraser was one of the first residents of Brookhaven at Lexington, and was formerly a long time resident of Wellesley.
She graduated from the University of Michigan with a major in mathematics. In March 1943 she enlisted in the Women’s Reserve and later that year was commissioned Ensign in the U.S. Navy, serving on active duty until September 1945. She retired from the US Navy Reserve in 1973 as Lt. Commander.
After moving to Wellesley in 1953, Edwina Gies Fraser owned and operated a gift shop in Wellesley Hills, the Treasure House, and was a former president of the Wellesley Chamber of Commerce. She was active in Wellesley town government as a Town Meeting Member, a member of the Advisory Committee and the Town Improvements Coordinating Committee. She was elected to the Wellesley Board of Selectmen in 1971.
Edwina Gies Fraser was a Past President of Quota International, Inc., and was a Charter Member and Past President of the Wellesley Quota Club.
Edwina Gies Fraser and her late husband, Alfred A. Fraser, married in 1982. She was the sister of the late Virginia Chapman of Brookline, Massachusetts, the late Roland Gies of Detroit, Michigan, and the late Gilbert Gies of Albany, New York. Mrs. Fraser is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) WELLESLEY, on Wednesday at 9:30 AM. Funeral mass in St. Paul’s Church, Wellesley, at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visitation prior to mass from 8:30-9:30 AM. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, 12:45 PM.
