Florence E. Dingle, 87, of Derry, NH and a former resident of Watertown, MA died January 26, 2007 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry. She was born in San Francisco, CA on May 27, 1919, a daughter of the late William and Leitha (Ogilvie) Howard. Raised in both San Francisco and in Harrop, British Columbia, she graduated from the Mt. Zion Hospital School of Nursing in San Francisco. She began her nursing career at the Kapi ‘olani Maternity Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. She settled in the Cambridge and Medford MA area in 1948 and resided in Watertown, MA from 1961-2004, when she moved to be with her daughter in Derry. Prior to her retirement in 1984, Mrs. Dingle had been employed as a Registered Nurse in the Medical Department and Ob-Gyn Clinic at MIT for more than 20 years. She had previously worked at Mass General Hospital and at Mount Auburn Hospital, where she was a Head Nurse. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Watertown.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen McPherson of Derry; her son, Michael Dingle of Manchester, MA; and four grandchildren, Daniel and Emily McPherson and Liam and Faye Dingle.
Following cremation, a Memorial Service was held on Saturday, February 24 at 11:00 AM in St. John’s United Methodist Church, 80 Mt. Auburn St., Watertown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, 80 Mt. Auburn St., Watertown, MA 02472. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St. Derry handled the arrangements.
