DRACUT - Dorothy J. (Elliott) Bettencourt, 73, a resident of Dracut, died Wednesday February 7th, at her home. She was the beloved wife of William Bettencourt to whom she was married for 52 years.
She was born in Lowell on January 25, 1934, and was a daughter of the late George and Jeannette A. (St. George) Elliot. She was a graduate of St. Peter School in Lowell and Lowell High School, class of 1950.
Mrs. Bettencourt served her country as a Yeoman Third Class in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a bookkeeper for sixteen years by AG Hardware Supply Co. in Lowell. Earlier in her career she had been employed in that same capacity for twenty years by the former Everbest Native Poultry/Weaver Foods in Tyngsboro and after that for eleven years by the former Laganas Shoe in Lowell.
She was a communicant of St. Michael Church in Lowell and was a CCD teacher at St. Michael School.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter Helen J. Perron and her husband Kevin of Townsend; two sons William G. Bettencourt and Arthur R. Bettencourt and his wife Roxanne, all of Dracut; a sister Annette M. Desmarais of Lowell; three brothers Chester Elliott and Paul R. Elliot, both of Lowell, and Francis J. Elliott and his wife Linda of Dracut; three grandchildren Kristen D. Desrosiers of Dracut, William K. Bettencourt and Donna Lee Bettencourt, both of Millers Falls, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Donna Desrosiers and sister of the late Theresa C. Hennion, and Robert G. Elliot.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Friday from 4 until 8pm. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home on Saturday at 9am followed by her Funeral Mass to be Celebrated at 10am in St. Michael Church, Lowell. Spring burial in Varnum Cemetery, Dracut.
