Obituary

Anita R. (Galante) Mitkus, born April 4, 1915 in Brockton, one of eight children of Rocco and Mary (DiPasqua) Galante died Tuesday February 6, 2007 at West Acres Nursing Home.

Anita worked for many years at the Hamilton Wade factory in Brockton. She also was employed as a cafeteria worker at South Jr. High School. Through her career with the cafeteria service she gained the respect of her fellow workers and employers and was made manager at the West Jr. High School cafeteria. She worked at West until her retirement from the cafeteria service, a career of more than 20 years. In addition she held down a second job for more than 25 years in the kitchens of George’s Cafe.

She loved to travel in particular going cross country by bus with friends in the late 70’s. She traveled to Atlantic City and then Foxwoods enjoying the one armed-bandits the most. Poker was also a favorite pastime. She was a wonderful cook and loved to cook for her family and friends. Until six moths ago she lived on her own.

Anita is survived by her son and daughter-in-law John and Linda Ann Mitkus of Bristol, Maine, two grandsons Joseph R. Mitkus and his wife Sarah and Jared G. Mitkus both of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, two granddaughters Melisa Ferando and her husband Jason and Kris Bouldry both of Rhode Island, two great-grandchildren, a sister Clara Columbo of Brockton, Alfred Galante of Brockton and Edward Galante of West Palm Beach, Florida. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Anita was the mother of the late Joyce Schultz and sister of the late Gene, Michael and Esther Galante and Helen Kelly. A memorial service is planned for spring and will be announced.
