Obituary

Caroline "Carol" Degnan, a resident of Gales Ferry since 2001, formerly of Watervliet, NY, passed away Monday, February 5, 2007, after a brief illness.

She was born Caroline DeFino in Brooklyn, NY, on December 17, 1924, and later moved to East Nassau, NY. She graduated from Averill Park High School and attended classes at the Watervliet Arsenal. During World War II, the Korean War, and the Viet Nam conflict, she was a machinist at the Arsenal. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank J. Degnan, who was a detective in the Watervliet Police Department.

Carol did volunteer work at the Albany VA Hospital (30 years), the Equinox Thanksgiving Dinner, the Watervliet Library, and the Civic Center. She was involved with the “After Sixers” Bowling League, the “Pitch ‘n’ Putt” Golf Club, and the Watervliet Seniors’ Bocci League. She played in the Wynantskill (NY) Volley Ball League for 38 years. For many years, she was a member of the Watervliet Elks Club Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Watervliet Senior Center.

She is survived by her brother, Perry DeFino, of Brunswick, GA, and her daughter, Candy Marsh, of Gales Ferry, CT. She also leaves behind four grandsons: Shaun and Scott Davis, and Daniel and Dennis Marsh; and six great-grandchildren: Caitlyn, Caleb, Olivia, and Dugan Marsh; and Colbey and MacKenzie Davis.
