James F. Greene, 77, of Mattapoisett died Tuesday February 6, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Marian G. (Grady) Greene.
Born and raised in New Haven, CT, the son of the late William and Veronica (White) Greene, he lived in Mattapoisett since 1969.
Mr. Greene was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church.
He enjoyed his last job as Assistant Harbor Master in Mattapoisett. Prior to that, he was employed as Human Resources Director at Acushnet Company for many years.
Mr. Greene served as an Officer of Special Investigations in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a past president and former campaign chairman of the Greater New Bedford United Way and a member of the former Serra Club.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Greene, and his wife Susan, of Marion; four daughters, Beth Walters, and her husband Timothy, of Littleton, CO, Donna Muller, and her husband Peter, of Stamford, CT, Patricia Kaplan, and her husband Alan, of Kings Park, NY and Joann Porter, and her husband John, of Tallahassee, FL; two sisters, Lois Longobardi of South Dennis and Priscilla Hauser of Hamden, CT; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett Saturday, February 10th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Anthony's Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday, February 9th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472, the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, or the charity of one's choice.
