Obituary

Francis (Frank) Mazza

Frank Mazza was born in East Boston, Massachusetts on August 15, 1914, the son of Nicholas and Mary Mazza, and the eldest of their six children. He passed away on February 3, 2007 in Colorado Springs, Colorado after a brief illness.

During the depression, Frank helped to support his family after the untimely death of his father in 1929. Regardless, he found the time to complete a high school education at night. This set the pattern of his life as a caring and supportive son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.

Frank proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Forces from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific theater, participating in intelligence gathering thru aerial photography for MacArthur’s island hopping campaign, and in the liberation of Saipan. After the war, he had a successful career of over twenty-seven years as the manager of a blueprinting operation at Hutchinson Brothers Company in Boston. After retiring from Hutchinson, Frank worked for the State of Massachusetts as a blueprint developer for seven years.

Frank married Alice Wirzburger in 1947. They lived in and around Boston settling finally in the Boston suburb of Malden. They were married for thirty-eight happy years during which time they shared their passion for dancing, and enjoyed traveling about the world. During this period, Frank, a devout Roman Catholic, was an active member of the Holy Name Society. Frank and Alice have one daughter, Anne.

Frank moved to Colorado Springs in 1985 shortly after the death of his first wife, Alice, to be near his daughter and grandchildren. Regardless of the move, Frank remained an avid, life-long Red Sox fan and lived to see his beloved Bosox win the World Series. In 1992, Frank married Tomasina Harlow. They have spent the past 14 happy years enjoying their composite family, dancing and traveling around the country, seeing the sites.

Frank is survived by his wife Tomasina, daughter Anne and her husband Tony Buetti, granddaughters Michele Buetti Drexler of Norwich, CT and Nicole Buetti of Los Angeles, CA, brother Nicholas Mazza of Plymouth, MA, and sisters Nelly Geggis and Rita Mazza of East Boston, MA.
