GERARD A. BUSSIERE, SR., of Hingham, MA, died on Saturday, Feb. 3rd at his home after a long illness. He was 81. Mr. Bussiere was born in Lewiston, Maine where he was raised and educated. During World War II he served with the United States Marine Corps and participated in the occupation of Japan (he was with the first group to enter Nagasaki following the atomic bombing) and also the occupation of China. He lived in Hanover, MA for many years before coming to Hingham over 50 years ago. He was a well known self-employed carpenter and general contractor in the South Shore area. Mr. Bussiere was active with the Disabled American Veterans and was a past commander of the Rockland DAV # 50 and was also a past commander of the State DAV.
Husband of the late Marie (Lacombe) Bussiere, he was the father of Anne Servidio and her husband Richard of Lewiston, Maine, Claire Coughlan and her husband Mark of Weymouth, MA, Gerard Bussiere, Jr. and his wife Teresa of Holbrook, MA, Paul Bussiere and his wife Marion of Norwood, MA and Michele Bussiere and her partner Mary Billingsly of Centerville, TN. Brother of Blanche Poisson, Fernand Bussiere, Eyvonne Hebert, Connie Sullivan, Annette DuBuc, Dick Bussiere, the late Leo Bussiere and the late Rita DuPont. Also survived by family friend June Seitz, longtime companion 'Malibu', 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 8th at 10 AM at St. Paul's Church, 147 North St., Hingham Square.
Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham, MA on Wednesday from 4-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the South Shore, P.O. Box 859060, Braintree, MA 02185-9060.
The interment will be in the Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
