SALEM, NH - Donald R. Hunter, 85, a former resident of Tewksbury, with family members inBurlington, died Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Mass.. He was thehusband of the late Phyllis M. (Chandler) Hunter, who died in 1985.
He was born in Milford, Mass, a son of the late Raymond and Irene (Manchester) Hunter. Hewas raised in Milford and Lowell, and graduated from Lowell High School. He lived inTewksbury until 1961. After living in upstate New Youk he returned to the area and settled inBurlington,Mass. He had been in residence at the Salem Haven Nursing Center for the lastseveral years.
During WWII, he served in the Combat Engineers Battalion of the Army in the Pacific Theater,based in New Caladonia.
He was retired from NABISCO (National Biscut Company) where he worked as an accountantand auditor.
He attended Nichol’s College, was a former member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks, Lodge2070, and was a member of the Burlington Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and her husband Frank Carbonneau ofBurlington, Alice and her husband James Iles of Clay, NY, one brother and sister-in-law, Robertand Gail Hunter of Akron, Ohio, one sister, Marion Pond of Greenville, S.C., fivegranddaughters, Cynthia Curry of AZ, Dawn Thorne of KS, Erin Stark of GA, Jessica andMargaret Iles both of NY, and two great grandsons, Matthew Thorne and Thomas Curry.His funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 22, from the funeral home followed by interment in Tewksbury Cemetery.
