Edward G. Shire, 70, of Franklin, died, Saturday, February 3, 2007 at his home. He was the husband of Kathleen (McLaughlin) Shire who died in 2003.
Born in Boston on October 28, 1936, he a son of the late Edward H. and Ruth (Saliba) Shire. A resident of Franklin since 2001, he had formerly resided in Millis for 30 years and also in Jamaica Plain.
He worked in dental sales financing for over 50 years, most recently as Vice President of Dental Sales at G.E. Financial Services.
An avid supporter of the arts and nature, Mr. Shire was a member of the Massachusetts Audubon Society, the Appalachian Mountain Club and the Museum of Fine Arts. He loved hiking, time at the ocean and traveling as well as painting and pottery, but most important to him was spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by; three daughters, Lorraine Shire Pecchia and her husband, Robert Pecchia of Saco, ME, Donna Shire-Swift and her husband, Timothy Swift of Franklin and Karen Shire and her husband, Peter Wetzel of Morlenbach, Germany, three sisters, Jeanette George and her husband, Charles of Braintree, Joyce Smith and her husband, Will of Dedham and Linda Bolliger and her husband, Glen of Andover and a brother, George Shire of Verona, NJ.
He was a devoted grandfather of Brian and John Pecchia, Timothy and Michael Swift and Frederick Wetzel. He is also survived by 21 nieces & nephews & 18 grandnieces & grandnephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin on Thursday, February 8 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Square in Franklin at 10 o’clock. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m.
