Leneve M. (Simkins) Leatham, 92, of Marion, Mass., died February 2, 2007, at Sippican Healthcare Center in Marion. She was preceded in death by Leo H. "Lee" Leatham after 56 years of marriage. Born in LeGrande, Oregon, she was the daughter of Charles R. and Hattie Belle (Wood) Simkins, received her bachelor’s from Oregon State College and a master’s from New York University. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. For most of her married life she lived in Fresno, Calif. In 2002 she joined her son and daughter-in-law in Marion.
Leneve Leatham was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fresno, Calif, and a communicant of Marion of St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church. She taught in the Fresno City Schools and Fresno City College.
She was an avid golfer and walker, enjoyed travel, art, and yoga.
Survivors include her brother Glenn Simkins of Bellingham, Wash.; two sons, Douglas Leatham and his wife Elizabeth, of Marion and Dwight King-Leatham and his wife Darcy, of Chevy Chase, Maryland; two daughters, Linda Bryant of Pensacola, Fla., and Maxine Cox, and her husband Junior, of LaFollette, Tenn.; a former daughter-in-law, Judith Olson Leatham of Minn.; eight grandchildren Rachel, Charles, Billie, Pamela, Jim, Sarah, Margo, and Weston; five great-grandchildren; a niece Cherie Simkins Gruenfeld, and a nephew Larry Simkins.
A memorial service was held at Saint Gabriel's Church on February 3rd. Visiting hours are omitted. Burial will be in Fresno, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the leading high school student exchange program, AFS-USA (formerly American Field Service).
