Robert W. Gibbs, 85 of Derry, NH died Thursday February 1, 2007 in Manchester, NH. Mr. Gibbs was born in Manns Harbor, NC on July 3, 1921, the son of the late Herman and Bertha (Tillett) Gibbs. He was a resident of Derry for over 60 years, formerly living in Manns Harbor. Mr. Gibbs was a US Navy WWII veteran. He worked for many years at the Lowell Shoe Company in Lowell, MA and was employed for 20 years as a custodian for the Derry School System. He was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Derry.
He is survived by three daughters, Maureen Bettez and her husband Ronald of Londonderry, NH, Kathleen Eddings and her husband John of Derry, Margaret Gagnon and her husband Ronald of Laconia, NH, nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, three sisters, Inez Gibbs and Jenny Creef both of Manns Harbor, NC, Rev. Bessie Smith of Durham, NC, also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased in 2001 by his wife of 56 years, Laurette (Lee) Gibbs.
Calling hours were Sunday February 4th from 2 – 5pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. Burial will be in the Spring in Holy Cross Cemetery, Londonderry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Greater NH Chapter, 10 Ferry St., Suite 427B, Concord, NH 03301.
