Obituary

Joseph A. Marini, 84, of Marion, died Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility in New Bedford after a long illness.
Joe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy (Daley) Marini; daughter and son-in-law Susan (Marini) Nielsen and Butch Nielsen of Fairhaven; and daughters Paula Marini and Arlene (Marini) Enos, both of Marion.
He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law John and Cathy Marini of Canton; and his sisters, Vera Marini and Gilda (Marini) Brackett, both of Watertown.
His life was centered around the love of his family which included grandchildren Marina, Jillian and Matthew Nielsen; Joseph and A.J. Risher; and Nicole and Nolan Enos; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Marini was born and raised in Watertown, served 2 years in the Army, was married and then moved to Marion where he has lived for over 50 years. Joe started his own construction business and was a talented stone mason. His work can be seen all over Marion and surrounding towns.
Joe was always active in town affairs. He was a part-time member of the Marion Police department for over 35 years; was a member of the Marion Lions Club, the Marion Social Club and served for over 17 years on the town of Marion Recreation Commission.
Joe often donated his own time and resources for a wide variety of town projects. His generosity and compassion for those in need is well known. He has been a well-respected and well-liked fixture in the community for many years.
His absence will be sorely felt by his family, his friends and the town of Marion.
He was the father of the late Joseph J. Marini.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be conducted at Wickenden Chapel on the grounds of Tabor Academy, Spring Street, Marion on Saturday, February 3rd, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Marion. Visiting hours will be on Friday, February 2nd from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Mattapoisett.
