Obituary

SHREWSBURY-Theodore W. Powell, 83, of 36 North Quinsigamond Avenue, formerly of Circuit Avenue East, Worcester, and East Providence, RI, died Sunday, January 28th, in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home. He leaves his wife of 40 years, Natalie W. (Cole) Powell; 2 sons, Lawrence S. Jones and his wife Claire of Charlton and Timothy C. W. Powell and his wife Kimberly of Worcester; a daughter, Tammy L. MacDonald and her husband Thomas of Southborough; 6 grandchildren; 2 nephews and a niece. He was predeceased by a son, Charles G. Jones in 1997, and a brother, Victor W. Powell.

He was born in Malden, the son of L. William and Barbara M. (West) Powell and graduated from Kittery (Maine) High School and Fisher College. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1966 after 25 years, having served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and during the Vietnam Era. After retiring, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service, first as a letter carrier and later as a distribution clerk, retiring in 1989. He later worked as a courier for Clini-Tech Laboratories until 2004. Mr. Powell was a member of St. Michael-on-the-Heights Church, the American Legion Post 462 in Boston, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4, the Fleet Reserve Association and the V.F.W. Post, Boston. He was a former member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church and St. Michael and Grace Church, Rumford, RI.

The funeral is Thursday, February 1st, with a service at 11:00 A.M. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5:00 until 9:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 31st, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
