BARRETT Thomas In Quincy, Jan. 26, 2007, age 82, formerly of Furnish, Lettermullen, Co. Galway. Beloved son of the late Matthias and Julia Barrett. Loving brother of Julia Mulvey of Jamaica Plain, Nora Folan of Inverin, Co. Galway, Matthias Barrett of England, Joseph Barrett of Deland, Fla. Sr. Mary Immaculata of Clara, Co. Offlay, Mark Barrett of Furnish, Lettermullen, Co. Galway and the late Mary Scullion, Mairtin Barrett, Maggie Conroy, Bridget, Coleman and Patrick of Co. Galway and John Barrett of England. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Tom retired as a 30 year employee as Head Tailor for Lord and Taylor’s and was past President of the Irish Social Club of Boston. He was a member of many Irish organizations, including the Irish Social Club, Irish Cultural Center, Norwood Irish Music Club, Cumann na Gaeilge i mBoston and Co. Roscommon Assoc. and was a lifelong member of the Quincy YMCA. He served on the Central Remedial Clinic in Dublin’s Michael Joyce Wing Committee. Tom had received numerous awards throughout the years for his charitable work and preservation of Irish culture and language. Before vocal cord complications, he was a frequent guest of the Irish language Radio na Gaeltachta in Connemara. Tom was one of the longest living kidney transplant recipients in Massachusetts and had raised funds for the National Kidney Foundation and countless charitable endeavors. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY, Friday Feb. 2nd at 9:30 am. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church 556 Washington St., Quincy, at 11 o’clock. Visiting hours Thursday 2-8 pm. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Ireland.
