Obituary

WEBSTER – Gene J. Grenon, 72, of 215 Killdeer Road, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 28, in the Transitional Care Center at Hubbard Regional Hospital after an illness. His wife of 45 years, G. Patricia (Moore) Grenon, died in 2002.

He leaves a daughter, Linda M. Gosselin and her husband Philip of Northbridge; 2 sons, Larry E. Grenon and Steven C. Grenon and his wife Donna M., all of Webster; a brother, Robert Grenon of South Weymouth; a sister, Marie DeMita of Rockland; 3 grandchildren, Marcia Perron of Millbury, Jennifer Gosselin of South Grafton and Daniel Grenon of Webster; nephews and nieces.

He was born and raised in South Boston, the son of Origene H. and Julia B. (Shimkus) Grenon. He lived in Gardner for many years before moving to Webster in 1984. He graduated from South Boston High School with high honors in 1952, and attended the University of Connecticut.

He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, stationed at Fort Devens.

Mr. Grenon was a hard working entrepreneur. In 1975, he founded and was president of Astro Wire and Cable in Worcester, which was cited as one of the top 100 Massachusetts companies by Fortune Magazine. In 1987, he founded Webster Machine Products before retiring. He was a commercial loan officer at the former Mechanics National Bank in Worcester. He also owned and operated “Maid for a Day,” a house cleaning service. He invented and patented the game Putter-A-Round.

He attended the Liberty Assembly of God Church in Shrewsbury and was a member of the Killdeer Island Club. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and a lifelong golfer.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 1, at 11:00 AM in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. A calling hour will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Thursday in the funeral home. Donations may be sent to the New England Dream Center, c/o Liberty Church, 495 Hartford Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
