John James Geise III, 52, of 10 Lema Drive, Mystic, passed away Sunday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 26, 1954 the son of John J. “Jack” Geise II of Leesburg, FL and Joan (Aufenanger) Geise of Dallas, PA. He was raised on Long Island and in Pennsylvania. He attended the College of Miseracodia in PA were he received degrees in Nutrition as well as Hotel Management.
John enjoyed a long career with casino resorts, beginning in 1978 with the openings of Merv Griffin Resorts and The Golden Nugget. Most recently, he was a Butler at Foxwoods Resort Casino. He had also been employed as a realtor for Prudential Pequot Properties for the past two years. When he first moved to Mystic, John founded the Sandy Hollow Garden Market.
He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church, Mystic. Known for his kind manner, he enjoyed boating, antiquing, and fine entertaining.
John was married to Jennifer (Gregg) Geise in Grafton, VT on June 1, 1996. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his children, John James “Jack” Geise IV and Mary Hope Geise; his siblings, Barbara Story of Rochester, NY, Lorraine Wilkinson of Philadelphia and Eagles Mere, PA, Christine McKernan of Skippack, PA, and Girard Geise of Shavertown, PA, and his stepmother, Doris Geise of FL.
John’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday from 5-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Brian Romanowski at St. Patrick Church, East Main Street, Mystic on Thursday at 10:30am (everyone is invited to meet directly at church). Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to Edward Jones, 55 Federal Street, Suite 250, Greenfield, MA 01301 for an educational trust fund to benefit John’s children.
POST SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
St. Patrick Church was filled to capacity Thursday morning for the Funeral Mass of John J. Geise III, celebrated by Fr. Brian Romanoski.
The first reading by Jay Wilkinson was Isaiah 25, and the second reading, from the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians was read by Jack Aufenanger, followed by the Gospael of Matthew.
Gerard Geise led intercessions followed by Communion in which Patrick and Christine McKernan presented to Gifts to the altar.
Musical selections included "Yahweh, I know You are Near", "We remember", "One bread, One Body", and "Joyful,Joyful".
Words of Rememberance were given by Susan Turley, Darrell Story, and Bobby McGee.
Following the Mass, all gathered at The Meadows of Stonington where are receptip was prepared.
