Elliot C. "Eli" Saperstein, a lifelong resident of Chelsea died peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home. He was 91 years old.
Born in Chelsea on March 15, 1915, the son of the late Israel & Gertrude (Sharofsky) Saperstein, Eli was educated in the Chelsea Schools and a graduate of Chelsea High School. After high school Eli had a part ownership in the Eastern Bottle Exchange Company in Malden prior to entering the United States Army on September 11, 1942. He served with the 366th Medical Battalion in France, Austria, & Germany. Eli was honorably discharged on March 27, 1946 with the rank of Private First Class. After returning to Chelsea, he became a scrap metal dealer associated with Mattucchio Brothers.
Eli’s only brother, Walter Saperstein, died in February 2005.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Sharon Memorial Park, 120 Canton St. Sharon on Monday, January 29, 2007 at 1:45 PM. Memorial donations in Eli’s memory may be made to the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home Foundation, 17 Lafayette Ave. Chelsea, MA 02150. Arrangements entrusted to the care of the Torf Funeral Chapel of Chelsea.
