Smith of Brockton January 27, 2007 Milton E. “Babe” Smith 89 years. Loving husband for 57 years of Eleanor I. (King) Smith. Father of Sandra Gangle of Oregon. Grandfather of Jonathan and Melanie Gangle. Brother-in-law of Doris Smith of Wareham. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Tuesday 10-10:45 am followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 11 am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, W. Bridgewater.

Obituary

Milton E. “Babe” Smith 89 years of Brockton died Saturday morning at his home under the care of hospice. He was the husband for 57 years of Eleanor I. (King) Smith.
Mr. Smith was born in Brockton a son of the late James and Rosanna (Guay) Smith and remained a lifelong resident of the city. He was a graduate of Brockton High School class of 1937 and had been a member of its undefeated football team of 1936.
During WW II he served in the US Navy as a Motor Machinist 1st Class aboard the USS LSM 314 in the Pacific Theatre.
Mr. Smith retired from General Ship Corporation in East Boston after 10 years. Previously he worked at General Dynamics in Quincy, Kemp Transportation and Bethlehem Steel at the Fore River Shipyard.
He was a member of the VFW Post 1046 in Brockton and the American Legion.
In the late 1930s he was a member of the West End Club.
Mr. Smith enjoyed traveling with his wife and had been a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter Sandra Gangle of Oregon, two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late James, William and Raymond Smith, Gladys Goodwin, Alice Daley and Evelyn (Howard) Dmitruk
