Charles R. Giddens, 79, of Ocilla, died Friday, January 26, 2007, at the Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 3 P.M., Sunday, January 28, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Irwin County, with the Rev. John R. Gibbs, Jr. officiating. Cindy Giddens will deliver a eulogy. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 PM Saturday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Giddens was born May 21, 1927, in Eustis, Florida to the late Otis and Agnes Griffin Giddens. He was a retired farmer and had lived most of his life in Irwin County. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Army. Mr. Giddens was a member and Deacon of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, a former R.A. Leader and Sunday School Teacher. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Mr. Giddens is survived by his wife of 53 years: Edith Henderson “Duck” Giddens of Ocilla: two sons: Eddie (Cindy) Giddens and Bruce Giddens both of Ocilla; Sister: Sarah (Wally) Schoenecker of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren: Cady Giddens, Zach & Mary Giddens, Sam Giddens, Courtney Giddens, Chase Giddens, and Chance Giddens. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Lillian Sumler.
The family suggests those desiring to send memorials in lieu of flowers may send them to Bethlehem Baptist Church, Irwin County or to the donor’s favorite charity.
