Elsie (Fortes) Gibbs, 81, of New Bedford died October 16, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late David P. Gibbs and daughter of the late Antone and Ada (DeGraf) Fortes.
Mrs. Gibbs was born in New Bedford and lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Gibbs was formerly employed at Cliftex, Dartmouth Manor and Reliable Bus Company.
Survivors include a son, Robert Fortes of New Bedford; a daughter, Karen Gibbs, and her companion Ramon Soltren, of New Bedford; 2 brothers, James Fortes of Oakland, CA and Alan "Peppy" Fortes of Vallejo, CA; 2 sisters, Marie Vieira of New Bedford and Gladys Valdez of Imperial Beach, CA; a granddaughter, Desiree Gibbs of New Bedford; many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late William Fortes, Arthur Fortes and Antone Fortes.
