Obituary

Dr. James Y. Moultrie, 85, of Nashville (formerly of Fitzgerald), died Wednesday, January 24 at the Berrien County Hospital in Nashville, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, January 27, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Rev. Gene Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 until 9, Friday evening at the funeral home.

Dr. Moultrie was born April 21, 1921, in Hillsboro, Alabama, to the late James Y. and Lula Smith Moultrie. He lived in Fitzgerald since 1968 and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Dr. Moultrie was a graduate and received his Doctorate Degree from Peabody Teachers College. He was retired Superintendent of the Fitzgerald City Schools and former Superintendent of the city schools in Huntsville, AL, Cordele, GA and Assistant Superintendent in Columbus, GA. After his retirement, he was a representative for VALIC Retirement for Teachers. Dr. Moultrie was a Naval Aviator and a Pilot Instructor in the United States Navy during World War II.

Dr. Moultrie is survived by his wife, Bonnie Chaney of Nashville; son & daughter-in-law, Jimmy R. & Mary Moultrie of Fitzgerald; daughter & son-in-law, Sherry & Steve Birger of Hixson, TN; stepdaughter & husband, Vicky & Danny Croft of Nashville; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mollie Darby Moultrie, 3 sisters and 5 brothers.
