Obituary

WORCESTER-Roy N. Holden, 75, of 19 Meadow Lane died Wednesday, October 16th in the Coes Pond Hospice Residence after a short illness. He leaves his wife of 49 years, Joanne (O‘Connell) Holden; a son, Mark V. Holden of Wichita, KS; 2 daughters, Maureen F. Holden of Watertown and Mary A. Stewart of San Diego, CA; 7 grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. 2 brothers, Paul D. and Francis W. Holden predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester the son of Nicholas F. and Margaret (Murphy) Holden and has lived in Worcester all of his life. He was an Army veteran of WWII serving in Germany. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology in 1950. Mr. Holden worked for Carter, Rice & Storrs as a salesman for many years retiring in 1989. Previously he managed the Perkins & Butler Store and was a buyer for Filene’s.

The funeral will be Saturday, October 19th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour will be from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM the morning of the funeral. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Church, Building Fund, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester, MA, 01602 or Coes Pond Hospice Residence c/o VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA, 01608.
