LOWELL— Ralph H. Dubey, 85 years old, a resident of Lowell for the past 60 years, died Monday evening, January 22nd, at Saints Medical Center, after a battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Lucille C. (Green) Dubey, who died in May of 2001.
He was born in Westford, on September 5, 1921, one of 18 children of the late Peter and Clara Dubey of New Brunswick, Canada, and was educated in the Westford school system.
Mr. Dubey was a Technical Sergeant in the Army Air Forces/Corps during World War II, and flew 33 missions over Germany between Fall 1944 and Spring 1945 as a member of the 564th Bomb Squadron, 389th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force. He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, European-African-Middle Eastern (EAME) Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and other awards. He was also chosen to participate in The Veterans History Project and recorded a narrative of his service years for the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. Upon his discharge he worked for many years as a Millwright for Educator Biscuit, in Lowell, and Crown Cork and Seal, in Lawrence.
He was an avid sportsman, and the last surviving charter member of the Westford Sportsmen’s Club. He also held membership in the Westford American Legion, Post # 159; and the Plum Island Surfcasters Club.
Surviving him are a daughter and son-in-law: Karen and Stephen Sachs, of High Ridge, MO; a son and daughter-in-law: Kenneth D. and Debra Dudley Dubey, of Lowell; two grandchildren and their spouses: Eric and Heather Sachs, of Fenton, MO; and Katherine and Shawn Scovill, of Farmington, MN; three great-grandchildren: Douglas Sachs, Bryana Brower, and Aidan Scovill; two sisters: Evelyn Maurice, of Lawrence, MA; and Agnes (Irene) Hileman, of Mt. Union, PA; also many nieces and nephews, including Roger Dubey (and his wife Pauline) of Lowell, MA.
He was the grandfather of the late Jessica Sachs, who died on September 11, 2001.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Friday, January 26th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38), Lowell. His Funeral Mass to be offered Saturday January 26th, at 10 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Lowell. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
