Obituary

Ida Bertha Hancock Portier, 91, of Jacksonville, Florida, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Fitzgerald Nursing Home in Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2007, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Danny Lovett will officiate with burial to follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Lenox. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 27, 2007, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Ms. Portier was born on August 10, 1915 in Tift County and was the daughter of Winfield Scott Hancock and Martha Lawson Hancock, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Dock W. Bowden; her second husband, Jack Portier; one son, Jimmy M. Bowden; five brothers; four sisters; and two great grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a retired waitress and a member of the Eastern Star in Jacksonville, Florida. She was raised in Tift County and had lived in Jacksonville, Florida since 1965.

Ms. Portier is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Herman S. and Sue Bowden of Fitzgerald; one daughter and son-in-law, Lois Bowden McKean and her husband, William, of Jacksonville, Florida; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted or gifts may be made to United Hospice in Cordele.
