Obituary

John H. Madden, 103 of Londonderry, NH died January 22, 2007 in the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry, NH. Mr. Madden was born in Derry on May 18, 1903, a son of the late William F. and Mariah (Manning) Madden. He was a 70 years resident of Londonderry, having been raised and educated in Derry. Spanning over 100 years, Mr. Madden has experienced buckboards to computer boards and lived through two World Wars. In 1929 he started a rubbish removal service in the Derry community which he operated until he was 95. He was presented the Boston Cane by the town of Londonderry at age 100. He was a former charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3023 in Derry. He was an avid roller skater for 37 years until the age of 88 and also enjoyed candlepin bowling which he started while in his 80’s and continued until he was 95.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Jervah and her husband Harold of Derry, his son, John Madden and his wife Susan of Londonderry, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel Madden, his sister, Margaret O’Connors and by his daughter, Joanne Fitzgerald who died in 2003.
Calling hours were held on Friday January 26th from 4 – 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Private funeral services and burial were held on Saturday.
