West Bridgewater - Joseph J. Martelli Sr., 80, of West Bridgewater, died Jan. 20, 2007, at Brockton Hospital. He was the husband of Phyllis (Carver) Martelli.
Born, raised and educated in Bridgewater, he was a graduate of West Bridgewater High School and remained a lifelong resident of the town.
Mr. Martelli served with the U.S. Army during World War II, earening the rank of Corporal.
He worked as a correctional officer for 30 years at the Southeast Correctional Facility in Bridgewater, retiring in 1987 as sergeant.
Mr. Martelli enjoyed fishing and hunting.
In addition to his wife, Phyllis, he is survived by his daughter, Christine Dame and her husband Michael of Plymouth; his son, Joseph J. Martelli Jr. and his wife Rilana of Brockton; his brother and sisters, Bruno Martelli, Eleanor Snarski, Rose Marie Law and Mary Allbergini, all of Bridgewater.
His funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday in the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rt 18), Bridgewater. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-8 pm.
