Obituary

Curtis A. Carter, 72, of Ocilla, died Monday, January 22, at the Irwin County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Wednesday, January 24, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, with the Rev. Jim Osborn officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Carter was born March 29, 1934, in Worth County to the late Frank and Lillie Moon Carter. He lived in Ocilla since November of 2006 from the LaCrosse, FL area and was a former resident of Gainesville, FL. Mr. Carter was a retired Maintenance Supervisor with the Dairy Science Department at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He was a member of the Santa Fe Baptist Church in Alachua, FL. Mr. Carter played the guitar, was a tenor singer and leader of the Carter Family Gospel Singing group for many years. In addition to his music, he enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Stott Carter of Ocilla; children, Danny Ray Carter of Douglas, Dawn Worrell of Brookfield, Diann Ward of Summerville, SC and Stott Carter of Corpus Christi, TX; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Juanita Ketchum of Ocilla; sisters, Thelma Carlysle of Gainesville, FL, Joyce Smith of Tifton and Janice Sinquefield of Albany; brothers, Billy Carter of Ellabell, Ernest Carter of Americus and Jimmy Carter of Collins.
