Eugene J. Godin 89 formerly of 74 Thibeault Ave. died Sunday in Oakland Grove Health Care Center. He was the husband of Rita (Peloquin) Godin. Mr. and Mrs. Godin celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary April 26, 2006. Mr. Godin was born in Woonsocket a son of the late Philippe and Marie (Salvas) Godin. Mr. Godin was a loom fixer and weaver for several area textile mills for fifty years retiring in 1982. He served in the US Army in WWII from 1942 -1945. He was a member of the Cannon Co. 393d Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division. He participated in 5 campaigns in the European Theater and spent 271 days in combat earning him the Bronze Star. Mr. Godin was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He had also served in the Civilian Conservation Corp.
Besides his wife he is survived by a son Robert Godin of Simsbury Ct. a daughter Dotti Mondoux of N. Smithfield, four grandchildren, Michelle, Ashleigh, and Casey Mondoux and Philippe Godin, three sisters Alice Richer and Helen Peloquin both of Cumberland and Theresa Maranda of Woonsocket. He was also the brother of the late Herve and Leo Godin, Corana Michaud, Valerie Germain, Marie-Ange Taillon, Eva Desrochers and Rose Tellier.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:00 am. from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St. Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. in All Saints Church, Rathbun St. Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will be held in St. Jean Bapiste Cemetery in Bellingham. Visiting hours are Tuesday 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
