Kathleen "Kay" (Johnson) McDonough, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Thursday, January 18, 2007, at The Blair House, Tewksbury, after a long and courageous fight with illnesses.
Kay was born in Boston on March 2, 1940, where she grew up in Charlestown and attended Boston Public Schools. Kay has been a dedicated employee of the City of Boston for over 40 years. She worked at the Old Boston City Hospital as a clerk for over 20 years and for the City of Boston Custodial Department of the Boston Police Department until her illness. Kay, throughout her entire life, has been dedicated to the growth and well being of the young girls of Charlestown participating throughout her years at the Charlestown Girls Club. During the closure of the Girls Club, Kay took the initiative to find other locations for the girls of Charlestown by having the Lexington Gym in Charlestown available for all girls sports until the combination of the Boys and Girls Club. She was very involved in the Girls Club in such position as coach, fundraiser and raising money for reunions for the girls of Charlestown and their interest in the Charlestown Girls Club.
Kay is the beloved wife of the late James L. McDonough. She is the devoted mother of Erin K. McDonough and her fiance Michael Lafond of Derry, NH. She is the beloved daughter of the late Frederick A. and Mary F. (Dyer) Johnson. She is the beloved sister of Ann Blaney of Chelmsford, Patricia Rudy, Edward Johnson and Mary Maloney all of Charlestown, Marilyn O'Donnell of Derry, NH, and the late Frederick A. Johnson, Jr. She is the loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Kay's Funeral will be held from the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at 11 a.m. followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown, at 12 noon. Relatives and friend are invited to attend. Visiting hours for Kay will be held on Monday, January 22, 2007, from 4 - 8 p.m. Interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
