James R. Hindman, Sr. 68

James R. Hindman, Sr., 68 of Mansfield died on Thursday January 18, 2007 at home surrounded by the love and care of his family. He was the beloved husband of Rita (Sarro) Hindman to whom he was wed to for over 42 years.
Born in Welch, West Virginia on March 14, 1938 he was a dear son of the late Robert E. and Hesper L. (Mitchell) Hindman.
He grew up in West Virginia and was a 1956 graduate of Williamson High School in Williamson, West Virginia. While in high school he served in The United States Army Reserve. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1957 during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged in 1961 with the rank of Airman Second Class.
He was a graduate of Northeastern University where he received his B.S. in Business Administration and also was a graduate of Babson College where he received his M.B.A.
Mr. Hindman was a retired Director of Human Services and Security having worked for the Northrop Corp. in Norwood for over 30 years before retiring. While working at Northrop and after his retirement he had taught at Northeastern University, Dean College and at Suffolk University.
Actively involved in Mansfield town affairs Jim had served on the Mansfield School Committee, and was a former member of both the Mansfield Lions Club and the Mansfield Jaycees. He was also very active in Mansfield youth sports and had served as a former coach for both little league and basketball. He was a member of the Mansfield Grid Iron Club and the Northrop Retirees Club. He also served as a Bristol County Constable.
Jim enjoyed the wonderful summers spent with his family at there home in North Falmouth. Amongst his favorite activities on Cape Cod were boating, trapping lobsters and spending time with his cherished grandchildren and family.
An avid patriots fan, Mr. Hindman was the proud owner of season tickets in Foxboro for the past 40 years. He had made his home in Mansfield for the past 47 years.
In addition to his loving wife he is survived by his devoted children James R. Hindman, Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Falmouth, Robert R. Hindman and his wife Julie of Mansfield and Debra J. Anderson and her husband John of Mansfield. His dear sisters and brothers Ruth Sharp of Tenn. and Martha Brown, Samuel Hindman, Patricia Simmons and Thomas Hindman all of West Virginia. His cherished grandchildren Zachary, Jessica, Nicole, Jason, Samantha, Melanie, Maggie and Jack. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday January 22nd at 8:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.





Visiting hours will be held on Sunday January 21st from 2-6 P.M. at the funeral home.
