Joseph J. Lepordo Sr., of Somerville, died Wednesday at Mt. Auburn Hospital, Cambridge. He was 79.
Mr. Lepordo was born and raised in Watertown, the son of the late Carlo and the late Grace (Venuti) Lepordo. Mr. Lepordo served in the Navy during World War II. A talented accordion player from an early age, Joe won renown for playing and teaching the accordion all his life. During the golden age of show business, he played with many big acts and bands. Joe was also known locally for managing the Montvale Plaza for over 27 years, until his retirement.
He was the beloved husband of Doris (Marshall). He was a devoted father to Barbara Morani and her husband Daniel of Somerville, Anthony Lepordo and his wife Debra of FL, the late James J. and Joseph Lepordo, Jr. He was a dear father-in-law of MaryEllen Lepordo of Medford. He was a loving grandfather to Tracey, Gina, Danielle and her husband Roberto, Renee, Carmine, Jaimie, Joseph III, Angelique and loving great-grandfather to 6 great-granddaughters. He was the brother of Anthony of CA, Carlo of Sudbury and the late Clara Hyde.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Monday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Bourne National Cemetery.
