Gilbert Eugene "Gil" Davis, 79, of Chula, died Thursday, January 18, 2007, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2007, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. W. Ches Smith, III and Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate with eulogies to be given by Wade Clark and Maria Davis Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Boch Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Tifton and Bill Thompson. Graveside services and burial will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. Central Time in the Mount Zion Nazarene Church Cemetery in Blountsville, Alabama. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Davis was born on January 6, 1928 in Blount County, Alabama and was the son of John Willie Davis and Rhoda Morgan Davis, both deceased. He owned Davis Builders of Tifton and was a distributor for vinyl building products. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tifton and the Boch Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church in Tifton. He had lived in Tift County for 30 years.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Jeanette V. Hartley Davis of Chula; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Tim Trevilian of Roanoke, Virginia and Maria and Greg Edwards of Covington; two sisters, Teeny L. Holcomb of Blountsville, Alabama and Verna Belle Jones of Gardendale, Alabama; six grandchildren, Danielle Dumler, Jessica Bell, Melissa Whitten, Nichole Edwards, Ethan Edwards and Ashlynn Edwards; four great grandchildren, Daniel Tuck, Erin Tuck, Elise Tuck and Hunter Whitten; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
